Muller Van Severen

Friday, August 30, 2013

Color, shape, lines. Yeah, I'd just about go crazy for any one of these gorgeous pieces of furniture by Muller Van Severen. The designs are complete candy - slick color wheel surfaces, sumptuous leather slopes, smart, space-saving construction (hey there, craning light fixture over a perfect jade green tabletop). Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen create works of sculptural art through and through. Anyways, I'm in love.

tiro tiro

Extra extra, designer Teresa Robinson's Stone & Honey is now Tiro Tiro. That's alright. She's still making completely dreamy jewels. I love the sort of ancient - yet uncannily futuristic - civilization feel these pieces have - like unearthed treasures that make us wonder about the universe and time and space (first scene of Fifth Element, anyone? No? Anyone?). Though this is extremely difficult, I think the Medius Necklace is my favorite.

haw-lin

I've been hoarding these images for a while, because I haven't been feeling tired of summer really at all (the beautiful cool summer weather we've been having this year is just dreamy). But, with the recent high temps and humidity (ah well), I have to admit, I am daydreaming of sweater weather and my trusty ankle boots. So, here I go bringing it on back to the Opening Ceremony x Haw-Lin fw 2012 collection. Maaajor collab love. ps// if you're an image hoarder like me, you'll want to check out Haw-Lin immediately. Your hungry peepers will thank you.

Michelle Armas

Wednesday, August 28, 2013

Oh! What a bubbly sparkly spirit Atlanta-based artist Michelle Armas seems from the looks of these beautiful photos. I really love the abstract color stories of each of her paintings. Just imagine them glowing in a bright, naturally-lit living room! On that note of excited discovery, I'll be exploring the rest of the Pilgrim Blog archive (where I came across these!) . Best get ready for some more love...

spring summer fall winter

The perks of living in Los Angeles, right? Okay, so no, I don't think I'll be wearing the top right look, but, the white jeans in the winter + lightweight sweater + felt hat? Ya, definitely. Circling back around to Apiece Apart fw 2013 for some multi-seasonal inspiration that feels right.

Matthew Philip Williams

Tuesday, August 27, 2013

This is why I follow upwards of 800 people on Instagram. Anytime I come across someone whose photos I'm nodding yes to as I scroll, scroll, scroll, I follow. It leads me to discover cool creative people all the time! No self control. No need to be acquainted (oh well). It's like stumbling upon a wondrous cave you never knew existed that you can now peer in on and visit sometimes. (This is kind of how Instagram feels to me, each profile being a personal-sized magical cavern.) Case in point, Matthew Philip Williams, whose furniture and objects are a delight.

Leigh Wells

Monday, August 26, 2013

Leigh Wells makes the stuff of framed tabletop dreams. Muted and neutral, layered and interesting and a little odd, I'm of the belief that these would be just as beautiful sitting atop a bookshelf as a vase of fresh flowers. I especially love their monochromatic palettes with the odd flourish of green or yellow.

upstate (& weekend links)

Friday, August 23, 2013

Okay, never knew I needed perfectly high waisted shibori-dyed shorts this badly. These pieces by Upstate are the perfect amount of colorful and understated elegance. Dream pieces, for sure. See more of the s/s 2013 collection over at Miss Moss! Upstate also makes some seriously dreamy shawls that I would not mind cloaking myself in.

Have a wonderful weekend! I'm heading to FYF Fest in Los Angeles on Saturday on Sunday. Some seriously awesome bands will be playing!

ps// required weekend reading + listening:

My crazy talented friend Allegra just helped open a new restaurant in New York City's West Village, called Nourish Kitchen and Table, and it looks delicious. Plus, it's getting tons of great press! They specialize in delicious, healthy foods, and also have a gorgeous assortment of kitchen objects. Do visit if you're local!

This is a mighty beautiful bag. The Clarity Expandable tote by Chiyome for Of a Kind is just stunning, and kind of genius in its design too.

I saw an amazing documentary about New York artists Ushio and Noriko Shinohara this week. It is a beautiful and poignant view of love, achievement, and a life of devotion. Watch the trailer here.

⌇Returning to this insanely well-balanced Essential Mix by Nicolas Jaar. A special treat awaits fans of Twin Peaks.

Viviane Sassen

Thursday, August 22, 2013

Viviane Sassen's photography is so stunning, so interesting. Can't you imagine lingering in front of them, a bit transfixed, if you happened to stumble upon a gallery displaying them? I'd definitely love to see these up close. The rich colors, the mysteriously shaded faces, the plantlife (and shadows of) serving as frame and screen and sometimes shield. Thanks to Lili for introducing me!
