rosemary liss

I stumbled onto Rosemary Liss's tumblr, and I'm oh-so-happy about it. The extra happy discovery was that she is a Baltimore based artist - I love that city (it's where I attended college for 4 years). The texture and color palettes of these sweet canvases capture so well the decor mood I've been in lately - a touch quiet, but absolutely bold and extraordinary.

Happy Friday, ya'll. Sorry for the slight radio silence over here this week - work & less pleasant responsibilities have been lurking. This week I had to give in a bit. Lots of good stuff and plenty in the works for this here space thooough! Yah-oo.

In other news, sometimes, Los Angeles is just plain cool. I was buying jeans at Madewell and Amanda aka @hokaytokay and Jimmy aka @jimmymarble were hangin' out hosting a fun little event. They were the sweetest humans. So down to earth. And then, as you might do once putting a face and a smile to a killer Instagram account, I dove back into their impressive, inspiring work that despite having already been familiar with, revealed itself as completely cosmically awesome to me all over again. The best. I thought I'd post some of my favorite photos Jimmy's taken recently and the 2012 video that killed me when I first saw it, as well as direct you to his shop where you can buy the charming "BE COOL BABY" and "FEAR IS FOR JERKS" banners you've maybe seen around the neighborhood.

Paul Wackers

I love the organized clutter of these paintings by San Francisco-based Paul Wackers. Each feels charged with so much energy and color and interest, exploring spaces that are both sharply reminiscent of the things we see around us each day and also whimsical and dreamlike. Wackers explains:

"Images surround me as abstract concepts, presented by the curious interaction of forms, feelings, and situations. They offer a glimpse into the way the world is constantly being reloaded with opportunities and options for reinterpretations and impressions... In my paintings I try to create the feeling of getting lost in the thoughts that are easily ignored or put aside. Many of my paintings will come from moments seen in films or articles read in the newspaper or simply from a walk down the street. The images tend to be of non-places where the specifics of them are not important but how the elements within the picture interact as parts of another world that is sometimes jarringly familiar to our own. It might be seconds away from becoming reality or lifetimes in the past as a fleeting memory."
