light and space

I blogged about mA-style architects just last week, and already I'm at it again....... Can you blame me?! I hope you don't mind. Go on and check out this completely wondrous space they dreamed up in Toyokawa, Japan. Skylights and roofbeams throughout the home produce shadows and throw light onto the calm wooden surfaces, creating some truly heavenly geometric patterns.

a Japanese home

This perfectly tranquil home was created by Japanese architecture firm mA-style Architects for a young couple wanting to have their own space away from the nearby main family house. A nice luxury, eh? The small alcoves off of the main room with built-in shelving and simple furniture makes the space cozy and livable. I love the triangle motifs, the light Ash (maybe? Look at me trying!) wood, and white. So calming. I think I'll have an afternoon nap...

Doug Aitken's acid modernism

When a photo series of an interior space is titled "Acid Modernism," ya just about know you're in for a treat. Ye Rin Mok captures artist Doug Aitken's insanely beautiful, tumbled-down-the-rabbit-hole-&-landed-in-verdant-bloomin'-heaven home, and the results are eye widening - painted greenery crawling across rooms, an entire wall of sunset-toned stained glass, mirrors refracting a room's angles, confusing things just a bit. I love Aitken's word works, and this peak shows us that holy hell, the creativity does not stop there. Absolutely wondrous; I'm in love.

Swedish archipelago

Oh my oh my, oh. These photos of an isolated mid-century home in the northern Swedish archipelago are the stuff of fever dreams. I am swooning over the so-cozy green living room space, the charm of blue/white gingham bed linens, and the hazy sunshine pouring through the windows. dream living

Thank the heavens, Freunde von Freunden has returned to Los Angeles, welcoming us into the lives and reliably gorgeous living spaces of local creative folk. This recent profile on musician Greg Rogove and artist/actress Diana Garcia is a real beauty. Check Diana's completely awesome Mexican blanket adorned jumpsuit. Killin' it. Speaking about her work, Diana told FvF:

"[The piece] was the transformation of a wolf to a unicorn-leopard with wings. It says ‘be what you dream.’ I believe that we can be whatever we want to, we don’t have to follow stereotypes and get confortable with achieving only a few dreams in life, we can do it all."

In addition to their individual creative pursuits, the couple are set to open a, wait for it, cereal stand (called Another Kind of Sunrise) on Abbot Kinney in Los Angeles, and I have to say I am simultaneously rolling my eyes and rubbing my hands together like a small excited child. The eye roll is more in regard to how insanely hip that Venice boulevard is, and less about cereal. I love cereal.

I am smitten. This brooklyn apartment is the type that makes you (me) feel bad about that time you (me) lived in New York and didn't live quite like this. Confession: I do this sometimes. I get into these phases where I more... or less... torture myself by looking at gorgeous living spaces. How special is this house? Photographer Laure Joliet took these beauts in designer Tracy Wilkinson's home, which happens to be another California gem. Oh and that dreamy tee pictured? She made it. Check out wilkinson's other creations (including those perfect hanging pots) in her shop.
